New Water Atms For Delhi People Now!

To fight against the scarcity of the water in the Delhi City which is the National Capital of India, the Delhi Board has decided to set up Water ATMs on experimental basis with the collaboration of ‘Sarvajal’ a private philanthropic foundation from the state of Gujarat. Towards the first step the Delhi Jal Board opened 10 water ATMs in south Delhi especially in the suburban localities and also in the rehabilitated localities where the people can now have pure and potent water by using the smart card issued to them by the Board at very nominal rate. This move by the Government is highly hailed!

In the city of national Capital of India, Delhi there has been always scarcity of water. Because of unexpected growth of the City area and accordingly the population the demand for the water has been increased tremendously in the last few years.

The old pipe lines which desperately require renovation are responsible for wastage of large quantity of water. In fact the Delhi Water Board should think of laying new pipe lines now. Though some big water treatment plants have been built by the Board few years back they are not yet functional.

To supply the required water to the people of

Delhi, the Board has to depend on the other states like Haryana that supplies water to the treatment plants. The inefficiency of the bureaucracy and the red-tapism in the system has resulted into the non functionality of these newly constructed treatment plants.

The people living in the elite locality of the capital city Delhi don’t have any problems in getting water through the water connections provided by the Jal Board. But then the people living in the areas which are not elite ones really face a tough time in having the water to meet their minimum needs.

This problem becomes exaggerated in the summer season which is extreme in the city. People from such localities they contribute the funds and they order for the water through the water contractors who supply the water through their water tankers. Though there is a recommended rate prescribed by the Delhi government for the water, the contractors always charge much more than the prescribed price to ensure the timely availability of the water.

The potability of the water that is supplied by using the takers poses a big question mark if one look at the hygiene maintained by the contractors at the collection center  and also at

the distributing places with the rusted and unhygienic tankers which are often seen leaking from many places.

Under prevailing circumstances one can understand what can be the situation of the people residing in the slums and rehabilitated places where they neither have pipe lines nor the approachable roads.

Taking the plights of these citizens into consideration the Delhi Jal Board has started Water ATMs at 10 slum and rehabilitated areas of the south Delhi in collaboration with ‘Sarvajal’ that a private Philanthropic Foundation which is based in the state of Gujarat state that developed the technology where by the ordinary water can be converted into clear and potable water by using of reverse osmosis and ultra filtration techniques with the help of solar energy.

According to the local Television Channels these ATMs are the dispensing machines which will dispense water with the help of a smart card. As per the reports each liter of the pure and potable water from these ATMs would cost 15 paisa and one person can avail 20 liters of water per day by using the smart card that can be recharged from time to time.

This is a big boon for the people of Delhi who are residing in the suburban and rehabilitated areas. With the plans of setting up more water ATMs in the pipe line one can expect a lot of relief for these people who were having a tough time to procure the most essential commodity for life only after the air in the Capital of India. Thanks!
